I have this idea that good tacos come out of not-so-good looking cheap establishments. Heck, when I was in Mexico City in 2011, all the good tacos I ate came from large cauldrons being sold in not-so-enticing venues, with simple interior design, and a bare bones setup. All they had were simple tables, napkins for your messy hands, red and green hot sauces, and a little sink so you can wash your hands when you are done. La Guadalupana is the same. It doesn't entice one to bring a date here. Yet the tacos are divine and authentic.
I opted to go here after making a quick check on Yelp, seeing what is still open in my hotel's neighborhood, and since I just got back from a long trans-Atlantic flight, I wasn't too keen on going far. So I settled for this, and I am thankful I did. I haven't had good Mexican food in a while, certainly not in Berlin where I live. And even though LA isn't my most favorite city, its abundance of real Mexican food is a redeeming factor that I would take part in it as much as I can while I am here.
I ordered 5 different types, one each. They each cost 1.25 USD. And yes, they are finger-licking good. Match it with the green and the red salsas, and you'll be immediately sent to taco heaven. -
Dude Food G.
The outside may look a bit sketchy but be brave.
The staff is mellow.
The food is really good.
Try a carnitas huarache with a small side of rice and beans.
The thick handmade tortilla was excellent.
Add yourself some cucumber, radish and onions from the salsa bar.
You will be one happy hombre or muchacha after your meal.
I'll be back.
Gracias La Guadalupana. -

It was Ok. The tacos were gorgeous and inexpensive but the flavor was flat. Meat tasted like it had been cooked a lot earlier in the day and was stale. Corn tortillas were good but fell apart right away. Adding more salsa made the flavor better but that's not optimal. Probably wouldn't come back at 5pm again.

It was empty when we walked in on a Monday night. I imagine it's more in-demand during lunchtime. It's located in a strip mall so they have a private parking lot but it's pretty small.
Portions are pretty big. I ordered the enchiladas de mole ($9) and their corn truffle ($8), but could only finish the enchiladas. I was kind of confused by the chopped lettuce sitting on top of the four enchiladas.
The food is good but there's nothing that really screams "crave me!" That being said, I haven't tried the corn truffle plate, so I might have to update my review for that one if it turns out to be a game-changer. -

I am ADDICTED to the carne asada tacos here!!!! I am in LA once a week and I look forward to getting the tacos here EVERY time!! They are DELICIOUS & a steal...4 for $5. I'm a greedy girl. While 4 tacos fill me up, I find myself jonzing for just one more so I get 5. Why not??? It's just $1.25 more!! The meat is nicely grilled & flavorful on it's own...but in the perfectly fried tortillas...with a generous helping of diced onion, cilantro, & squeezed lime...topped with the orange/red SPICY chipotle salsa, guacamole salsa, & tomatillo salsa...(my mouth is watering as I write this...)...it is to DIE for!!!! All my friends cannot resist these tacos!!!!!! The orange/red salsa is a MUST HAVE. There was an occasion where my friend forgot the orange salsa but got the others because IT IS a pain to ladle the salsas into the tiny little containers. The tacos were still good that day, it wasn't the same. The orange/red salsa has the MOST heat!!
On occasion, I get the machaca burritos, which are good but they have more rice than I care for. I must admit that the other items are just mediocre. My friends have gotten the caldo de res, sopes & burritos and have said that they're just "blah". One of them repeatedly orders the huraches over the tacos. I have never had it, so I can't vouch for it.
Why only 4 stars??? The diced onions & cilantro in the salsa bar don't always look super fresh, maybe a day or two old. While it doesn't affect the flavor of the tacos. Sometimes, it's not that appealing to look at.
